I got up the next morning and did my usual ponytail (if you would call it usual) and got ready again for school. "Amu-chan, ready to put on your 'Cool & Spicy' character?" Dia asked me as a good morning. greeting. It was only Wednesday. Two more days until the Seiyo Ball. "Good morning to you too, Dia, Miki, Suu and Ran," I told them. Once down stairs I sat at my dining room table and ate breakfast thoroughly. "Onee-chan? Onee-chan!" Ami squealed.
"What is it Ami?" I asked. "Is Utau-chan going to the Ball?!" she demanded, her innocent eyes narrowing.
That reminded me. "Would. . . . would you come to the dance though? Iinchou and Kukai are coming. Invite, Utau too if possible." I remembered Ikuto's kiss. Blood rushed to my cheeks. "Onee-chan?" "Um, I hope so Ami. I invited her." "Yay! Onee-chan invited Utau-chan!" she sang. "Everyone is excited," Ran said breaking the silence after Ami ran off.
"Amu-chan, desu~?" Suu noticed something was wrong.
"It's nothing! We'd better go. Don't wanna be late," I tried to smile but couldn't. My guardian characters regarded me worriedly. I would have to talk to Miki alone later.
The walk to school was silent. At Seiyo with the preparations of the Seiyo Ball none of us had classes and worked to get everything done. At school, even the Guardians noticed something was wrong.
"Amu-chi, looks gloomy," Yaya noted from behind my back.
"Something wrong with Amu," Rima sounded concerned.
"Maybe something happened to Hinamori-san?" Tadase guessed. "Hinamori wouldn't let things get to her. Unless it was bad as losing a friend or getting an 'X' put on her eggs," Kukai pointed out.
"Joker, does looks pained," Kairi observed.
"Amu-chan, what's wrong?" Nagihiko asked me directly his eyes boring into mine, his hands were on my shoulders for sympathy.
My eyes widened. No! I don't want them to know. If they do, they'll be hurt. I was afraid. I shook Nagihiko's hand off my shoulders.
"Why should I tell you? This doesn't concern you!" I retorted but my voice broke on the last word.
Nagihiko as Nadeshiko was there for me all the time. I had said something so mean to him. He looked deeply offended. "Anyway, I have to go use the restroom for a while," I said walking out the room.
I walked to the park and sat there on the grass. I buried my face in my hands. I just sat there. Crying. Like an idiot.
"Miki," I whispered. She saw I was crying. Then she got all teary too. What the hell?
"Amu-chan, what is wrong?" she demanded.
"Miki, to tell you the truth, I don't want to be Seiyo Empress," I confessed my voice breaking twice.
"What do you want Amu-chan?" Miki asked me gently.
"I. . . . I. . . ." I didn't get to say anything for more traitor tears were rolling down my cheeks. Betraying me.
"Amu-chan," Miki whispered. She sounded pained.
When most of them stopped I tried to speak again. "At first when people started voting me as the Seiyo Empress, I wasn't sure what I wanted. I had this uneasy feeling inside. Now, it's so close to the Ball. That uneasy feeling. It grew and grew and now it's so strong I feel as if I'm going to fall apart. I don't even know why I feel this way. It's just so unbearable."
"Amu-chan, figure out what you want and then talk about it ok?" she smiled.
"Miki. . . ." my voice broke. She caressed my cheek. "WAAH! MIKI!" I sobbed.
"You had done crying your eyes out?" Miki asked me when I was done. Miki was the one guardian character I could tell everything to. I don't why.I nodded.
"I want to sing!"
Huh? Who's voice was that? Did I just hear it in my head?
"But, Hikaru, you need to rest! You can't keep practicing like this!" a voice cried from behind me.
Sitting on one of the park benches was a girl with dark brown hair tied in pigtails with sky blue eyes. She had a guitar on her lap. She was surrounded by at least five girls. The one who spoke was a blonde.
"Shut up! I'll practice all I want! I need to finish this!" the girl snapped back.
"Hikaru. . . ." the girls sighed. She strummed a few strings on her guitar, a familiar song. It was Blue Moon by Hoshina Utau.
"Hoshi o kakushiteru utsumuita hitomi ni Tomadou dake nanimo deki nakute,"she sang.
It was pretty, but a little too high pitched at some places.
"Argh! Dammit!" she cursed. "That was good Hikaru-chan!" another said.
"No it wasn't! I need it perfect! To sound exactly like Hoshina Utau!" she yelled at the girls.
I want to sing!" "Eh? Where did that voice come from?" I wondered, looking in all direction around me.
"Amu-chan, that girl. She'll get an 'X' on her egg soon," Miki whispered in my ear. "I know. But if her friends keep talking to her, it might not." "If you're sure," Miki's forehead creased.
"You worry too much," I flicked her forehead. I returned to the others and apologized for for snapping at them. They said it was okay.
Then we had organized a meeting with the entire school. Nagihiko and Tadase told me it was important if I wore my cape.
Putting it on, I headed in my seat at the meeting of the school. "So, we must discuss about the Seiyo Ball this coming Friday night," Tadase began in front of the school.
I fidgeted nervously in my seat. "Amu-chi, calm down," Yaya whispered to me. I eyed her warily.
"So, we must decide what type of music we shall have at the Ball. Our Joker, Hinamori Amu-san here has invited Hoshina Utau to join us and perhaps she will sing for the school," Tadase continued mid-speech, drawing attention to me so I blushed.
Sing, huh? Utau it seems nice that you can your heart out and show your true would-be self in front of your fans. Sometimes I'm jealous. Even if I have a guardian character that's talented in music. Wait a minute music, singing-
"Impossible, impossible, impossible," "Eh? That chant, . . ." "What's wrong, Amu-chi?" Yaya questioned me. Muri, muri, muri," "I want to sing!" No way! That voice!
I jumped out of my seat, causing a ruckus of murmurs in the gym. "Hinamori-san?" Tadase asked me, uncertainly. I dashed out of my seat. "Amu?!" Rima was startled. "Amu-chan!?" Nagihiko cried.
Running out the gym at full speed I reached the spot of where the park was. The only one who hadn't attended the meeting was Hikaru. She lied unconscious on the ground her guitar broken in two.
An 'X' egg floated in the air, facing me. The cracks on the egg appeared and an 'X' character was born.
"Miki!" I cried. "Yeah!" she nodded. "My own heart, Unlock!"
During my transformation I received a big light-blue button cap with a spade-shaped clip on it, a light-blue waistcoat and a pair of dark-blue shorts. I also wear long gloves, white and blue stockings and a pair of brown woodcutter-styled boots. My hair is loosely hung by the sides of my face, and the rest of it is hidden in my big button cap.
"Character transformation: Amulet Spade!" Miki and I cried in synchronization.
"Muri, muri, muri," "I want to sing!" "Impossible!"
"Nothing is impossible! You can sing! It's not impossible! Sing like Hoshina Utau! Let your voice soar, while your heart flies!"
"NEVER!"
"Miki, let's go this," I commanded. "Yeah," she agreed.
A huge blue paint brush appeared in my hands. "Colorful Canvas!" and rainbow paint spit of of the brush and shot at the 'X' character.
I smiled triumphantly. "Good, it's trapped. Ready Miki?" "Whenever you are Amu-chan!" she replied.
Put my hands together in a heart symbol I cried "Negative Heart! Lock on!"
Shining heart symbols flew from my hands and the light got brighter and brighter. "Open Heart!" I screamed.
Instantly the 'X' lifted off the character and it went back into its cleansed egg.
I disabled my character transformation with Miki. "That was done smoothly,
Amu-chan," Miki complimented me. "Wasn't it?" I turned around to find Ran and Suu sweating and Dia drooling in amazement. "So that's Amulet Spade!" she cried. "So cool," she drooled. "Dia. . . ." Ran trailed off.
"She has a giddy character, don't you think, desu~?" "Hey, Miki?" "Yeah?"
"Before, the feeling I was wondering about. . . . I think I found it." "'Found it'?" Miki quoted puzzled.
"I can sympathize, with that Hikaru girl, there. The empty feeling of wanting something, but not knowing what it is, so you never have enough. That's what I felt. I need that feeling. Dia!"
"What?" she cried startled by my voice going octaves higher. "We're going to see Tadase," I winked.
"Tadase-kun!" I called over. "Ah, Hinamori-san!" "I have a favor to ask you," I told him. "I'm sure. You're very busy as the next Seiyo Empress no doubt." He was sorting out papers, clearly not paying attention to what I was saying.
"Um, I want to ask you-" "Excuse me! Could you put these boxes into the student council room!" Tadase called over to one of the passing students in the hallway. "As I was saying-" "Hinamori-san, hand me those papers please," he pointed to a booklet at the foot of the table. "Let me sing!" I blurted out. Tadase was rendered speechless.
"What?" "I don't want to be an Empress for Seiyo. I never did!" "But Hinamori-san! The votes! Do you have any idea how hard we worked to make you the Seiyo Empress for the Ball?!" Tadase cried.
"Tadase-kun. . . ." I put my hand gently on his shoulder. "The votes won't go to waste. Trust me." His eyes grew wide. "Hinamori-san. . . ." "Have you or Nagihiko won the title of the Emperor yet?" I asked. He hung his head low. "No. It's still a tie." "Then make it so you guys are hosts!"
"Hosts?" he asked confused, still not comprehending what I was getting at. "You and Nagihiko can host the party!" I said enthusiastically. "But what about-"
"Dia is good at music and singing. Ever since she hatched and told me this I wanted to see what it was like to sing. I want everyone important to me to watch me sing for the first time"
Tadase-kun, Yaya, Nagihiko, Rima, Kukai, Iinchou, Utau, Ikuto and most important of all, Ami. I want her to see me as someone else for once. I want to take people's breath away. Not by dressing in a fancy ball gown, or dancing with the Seiyo Emperor and earning a kiss on the cheek from him. No. None of those things. The Seiyo Ball is the perfect time, for me to experience this feeling. None of what my other would-be selves I have character changed with, that I experienced. No, it's something I want to try with Dia. Something I want to shine my heart out with. I want to know what Utau feels when she sings on stage in front of millions of people. For the first time I want to experience what it is like to be an idol. So please, Tadase-kun, at the night of the Seiyo Ball, let me sing!" He smiled encouragingly. "Okay, Hinamori-san. I agree.
Do you mind if I say to the school there won't be a Seiyo Emperor and Empress because you plan a surprise for everyone?"
I nodded. "Fine, by me." I started walking away. "Oh, and by the way, how about me and Utau have a singing competition?" I suggested.
